The College Board says, On each assessment, one passage will be drawn from a U.S. founding document (a text such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights) or a text that is part of the Great Global Conversation (a text such as one by Lincoln or King, or by an author from outside the United States writing on a topic such as freedom, justice, or liberty). While The Great Global Conversation sounds like a mildly interesting YouTube live-stream event, I fear the truth is more along the lines of, â€Å"how do we be the change we want to see in the world?† or some other quote you’d expect to see on your High School Counselor’s cat poster. Why does this matter? The more predictable the SAT is, the easier it becomes. And now, The College Board has told us exactly what to expect on the reading section. How can I maximize points, using this? Take AP US History instead of AP European or AP World History. For the first time, a high school class besides math will have a direct applicability on the SAT. Students who spend a year studying US History will have a very high likelihood of encountering a passage that will appear on the SAT. If you haven’t seen the specific passage, then chances are you at least know the context of it. Imagine studying US history and then seeing a letter written by Martin Luther King, Jr. Even if you haven’t seen the letter before, you know so much about the context of the life and times,  that you will have a clear advantage over students who do not have that same body of knowledge. Need a quick refresher on your US History? Start here, and then skim this list of documents which I predict the New SAT will draw from for its reading passages. By making sure your curriculum is rich in material that is likely to be on the SAT you improve your likelihood of success in both the AP US History test and the SAT, as the overlap will make you stronger in both. *The elimination of a guessing penalty is of no benefit to test-takers, as the test is scaled, and this change effects all test-takers equally. For example, if an accuracy level of 75% used to scale to the 95th percentile, now an accuracy level of 80% will scale to the 95th percentile. The results that we have obtained from the different analyses we conducted in this project are considered to hold for the entire population under consideration and hence the results obtained from the sample data is true for the whole population. Introduction: The main objective of the project is to investigate various factors that affect the household electricity consumption. The consumption of electricity of a household depends on several factors like number of members of the family, no. of electrical appliances and heir average usage. Also income is an important influential factor of electricity consumption. Thus here, our objective is to find out various factors that affect electricity consumption and also we shall try to investigate how much is their role in the consumption of electricity. The variables that considered in this project are Home Ownership: The state of home ownership (O: Owned and R: Rented) Average Age: Average age of occupants State: Location of property (NSW: New South Wales, Vic: Victoria and Qld: Queensland) No of Rooms: Number of rooms in a house Energy Bill: Total cost of monthly energy bills (in AUD) Language: Language spoken at home (1: English and 2: Other than English) No of Occupants: Number of people live in a house Weekly Income: Average weekly income of a household (in AUD) For each of these eight variables, we shall try to represent them graphically and shall also produce descriptive statistics wherever needed. For the variables Home Ownership, Average Age, State, No. of rooms, Language, No. of Occupants, we shall use graphical representations like bar chart and pie diagram since the data available on them are categorical here. Also we shall provide a frequency distribution table for each of the variables. For variables Energy Bill and Weekly Income, we shall use histogram since the data is continuous in nature and has been measured using Ratio scale and also provide some of the important descriptive statistics that would give us a short summary about the distribution of the variables. We shall also conduct some tests regarding correlation and shall also proceed to test for the averages of some of the variables. We shall also construct confidence interval for some of the variables and then proceed to see if the actual population mean fall in the confidence interval. This will help us to determine whether the confidence interval is worthy or not. Before we conduct all the statistical tests and analysis, it is first mandatory to draw a suitable representative sample. We have drawn a random sample of size 100 from the population of size 1000. The sample chosen must be a good representative of the population and should be collected without replacement. Hence, the sample drawn in this project has been drawn by the method of simple random sampling without replacement. In the method of simple random sampling without replacement, all the units of the population are given equal importance and thus have equal chance of being selected in the sample. The selection of sample is done without replacement, thus once an unit has been chosen, it will not appear in the sample for second time. Thus, the sample contains 100 distinct units. Analysis: DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS Here we shall use various statistical techniques like graphical representation and descriptive statistics (average, volatility etc). We shall consider one variable at a time. Home Ownership The variable Home Ownership is Categorical in nature as the two possible categories here are Owned and Rented. Thus the variable has been measured in Nominal Scale and we use a pie diagram to represent the percentages of households that are Owned and Rented. The pie diagram is shown below: The frequency distribution table of the House Ownership is shown below: Home Ownership Frequency Owned 73 Rented 27 We thus observe that number of houses that are Owned is much greater than the number of houses that are Rented. Hence most of the houses that have been sampled have their Ownership. Average Age We know that average age of a household is measured in Ratio scale since Age may assume a large range of values. However in this case the average age has been categorised in the following categories Thus in this case, we have four categories of age and thus we should treat the variable as Ordinal in Nature (since different age groups can be considered to be ordered from lower to higher ages) and would summarise the data with the help of a Bar diagram. The Bar diagram is shown below: Also, the frequency distribution table for the age groups is shown below: Age Frequency 24 23 24-44 25 45-64 19 65 33 We thus observe that most of the household has average age to be greater than 65 which implies that aged people constitute a great proportion of the population. It can be assumed that aged people spend most of their time indoor and are thus expected to consume more amount of electricity. We also observe that the least frequency is shown by the class 45-64. Thus not many people in the population are in the age group 45-64. State The variable State is also categorical in nature and is measured in Nominal scale. The appropriate diagram used here is the pie chart and is shown below: The frequency distribution table is shown below: We thus observe that the highest number of households has been selected from NSW and Qld has the lowest contribution to the data. This choice might have been done depending on the size of the States. Number of Rooms The variable number of rooms is discrete in nature and is basically a count data. The data is numerical and thus is measured in interval scale. Hence we shall use Bar diagram to represent the data in this project. The diagram is shown below: The frequency table is shown below: We thus observe that most of the houses have 3 rooms and least number of houses have 7 rooms. The more is the number of houses, the more is the number of electrical appliances and thus more is the electricity consumption. Here since maximum number of houses has 2 rooms, thus electricity consumption may be supposed to be less. Electricity Bill The variable Electricity Bill is continuous in nature and is measured in Ratio scale. Since it is measured in Ratio Scale, thus we shall use histogram to represent the data graphically (since histogram is used to represent continuous variables). The diagram is shown below: Some of the descriptive statistics are also listed below: We observe that the mean amount of electricity bill is 122.5 and also the histogram suggests that the highest frequency of electricity bill lies somewhere around 115.9. Thus the average amount of electricity bill is not very high for the chosen sample. Language Here the language has been categorised in two categories which are 1: English 0: Other than English Since the data is categorical in nature and is measured in Nominal scale, we shall use Pie Diagram to represent the data. Also the frequency distribution table is shown below: We observe that most of that most of households chosen in the sample speak English as the percentage of households that Speak English is 68% which is quite high. of Occupants The variable number of occupants is discrete in nature and is basically a count data. The data is numerical and thus is measured in interval scale. Hence we shall use Bar diagram to represent the data in this project. The more is the number of occupants, the more is the number of electrical appliances and thus more is the electricity consumption. Weekly Income The variable Weekly Income is continuous in nature and is measured in Ratio scale. Since it is measured in Ratio Scale, thus we shall use histogram to represent the data graphically (since histogram is used to represent continuous variables). The diagram is shown below: Some of the descriptive statistics are also listed below: We observe that the mean amount of weekly income is 639.2 and also the histogram suggests that the highest frequency of Weekly Income lies somewhere around 65.6. Thus the average amount of Weekly Income is not very high for the chosen sample. CONFIDENCE INTERVAL We are 95% Confident that the actual mean Weekly Income of households of Home Owners lie between the range [525.4, 861.9] The actual mean Weekly Income of households of Home Owners is 554.3544. Clearly the value 554.3544 lie in the range mentioned above. Hence our estimation of the Confidence Interval is worthy. We are 95% confident that the average Total Bill of the households lie between the range [96.8, 148.3] The actual mean Total Bill for all the 1000 households is 119.001 Clearly the value 119.001 lie in the range mentioned above. Hence our estimation of the Confidence Interval is worthy. HYPOTHESIS TESTING We shall perform hypothesis test to find out if the renters consume less energy on an average than Home Owners. The type of the Hypothesis is lower, i.e. we shall test if mean electricity consumption of renters is less than Home owners. The test statistic is given by T =(m1-m2)/(s *sqrt (/1/n1 + 1/n2)) m1 and m2 are the mean Electricity Bill for Renters and Home Owners. s is the pooled standard deviation n1 and n2 are the number of Renters and Home Owners. The type of the Hypothesis is upper, i.e. we shall test if the mean number of occupants is more for the age group less than 44 years than those in the age group more than 45 years. The test statistic is given by T =(m1-m2)/(s *sqrt (/1/n1 + 1/n2)) m1 and m2 are the mean number of occupants in the two age groups s is the pooled standard deviation n1 and n2 are the number of households in the two age groups. CONCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS: After conducting the relevant analyses, we are here to conclude the following things: The average Energy Bill and average Weekly Income are not very high for the given population. The sample of size 100 drawn is a good representative of the actual population of size 1000 since the Confidence Intervals constructed for the means of the variables contained the actual population mean. The energy consumption does not vary significantly with respect to House Ownership. The energy consumption does not vary with significantly between NSW and other states taken together. Age of the household members does not have any significant effect on energy consumption. Energy Consumption depends linearly on Weekly Income. Energy Consumption also has a linear relationship with Number of rooms in the household. The limitations of the analyses conducted in this project are. In most of the cases we have assumed the theoretical distribution of the variables. However, there is no validity of our assumptions. In most of the cases, we have assumed our degree of error to be 5%. We could have chosen a smaller degree of error to get more accurate results.

During the twentieth century statue law and judicial decisions continued to be the major sources of law but, in addition there were two new sources became increasingly important these were delegated legislation and European law. Judges developed tests to decide whether to uphold such customs. One of the tests were that `the custom must have existed since time immemorial`. It was very unusual for a new custom to be considered by the judges, but there have been some case such as Egerton v Harding (1974) the court decided that there was a customary duty to fence land against cattle staying from the common. It is believed that the General custom was effectively the basis of the common law. When the country was brought under the centralised As it was largely based on customs before 1066, Customs varied from place to place in the North the Dane Law was being put into operation, in the Midlands it was the Mercian Law and in the South/West part of the country Wessex law was being implemented. However, in 1066 William of Normandy took over the England throne and set up the Curia Regis (King’s Court). This court consisted of nobleman who acted as judges. A practice was started of sending judges around the country to hold assizes (or sittings) to hear cases locally. In 1154 when King Henry II came to the throne he divided the country into circuits which lead the tours of the judges to be more regular. The judges acted as a â€Å"sifting process† where they would return to West minister and discuss the various laws that have been operated around the country. This enabled the judges, over a period of roughly 200 years, to take the best local laws and apply them throughout the land. Thus, as a result of this in 1250 there was a law which was same all around the country and this is how `common law` was established. The principle of ‘stare decisis’ also came into place which meant ‘stand by the decision’ and forms the basis of precedent today. There were many problems with the common law. The problems were mainly relating to the writ system which was a document containing the details of a person’s claim. The first problem with the writ system was that it was too rigid; if it was filled out incorrectly it would be completely ignored. The other problem was that the nobleman limited the type of writs due to the Provisions of Oxford 1258, so that certain categories of claim existed. The last problem was that the only remedy that the courts could give was the damages. This was not appropriate as in some cases such as in land disputes where money could not compensate the loss of land. People were disappointed therefore they wrote to the king to complain. The king was known as the â€Å"The Fountain of Justice†. The king was overwhelmed by the complaints and passed it on the Chancellor who known as ‘The Keeper of the King’s Conscience’ as he was both a lawyer and a priest. The chancellor had a reputation of solving the cases fairly and based on justice. The chancellor dealt with so many claims that in 1474 he was given his own court named as Court of Chancery this is when a new law came into place named â€Å"equity† meaning fairness. Equity historically had been an important source and still plays a vital role with many of our legal concepts having developed from equitable principles. The word equity meaning â€Å"fairness† operates on its meaning when adding to our law. Equity and Common Law both systems functioned side by side and eventually a conflict developed between these two systems and in that equity would frequently overruled common law decisions and denied them. The problem was that the Common law courts would make an order in the favour of the other party whereas the Chancery court would make an order in the favour of the other party. This conflict was later solved in The Earl of Oxford’s Case 1615 when the king came to the decision that where there was conflict equity should prevail. However, once the equity became a body of law rather that arbitrary exercise of conscience, there was no reason that it needed its own court. Therefore, the two systems merged together by Judicature Acts 1873-75 which established that equity and common law could both be administered by all courts and provide the system we have today. Hence, common law advanced from customs and on the other hand equity established from the problems in common law and today both systems are delivered in all courts. (b) What has been the impact of modern equity on the common law? The Chancellor began to introduce new procedures and remedies. He formed subpoenas where he ordered the witnesses to attend the court. The chancellor also created new remedies of injunctions, rescission, rectification and specific performance. Injunction is an order to stop a person doing a particular act, like acting in breach of contract (a prohibitory injunction) or mandatory. For example, a landlord might bring an action against a tenant for waste, in which the right to protect the land-lords interest in the ownership of the premises is at issue. The landlord might apply to the court for an injunction against the tenants continuing harmful use of the property. The injunction is an ancillary remedy in the action against the tenant. Rescission allowed the parties to a contract where they can be in their original positions in the case of a contract induced by a falsification. Rectification allowed the contracted documents to be altered and specific performance orders the party to act as promised under the contract. All four remedies mentioned above are still widely used today. Injunctions can be used in issues of domestic violence or noise pollution whereas rescission, specific performance and rectification can all be used in the law of contract. Equity also created maxims which had to be satisfied before equitable rules could be applied. Maxims are sayings that express principles of equity. These maxims were designed to ensure that decisions were morally fair. A maxim which elaborates on how equity operates is â€Å"equity acts as a shield not as a sword†, this states that equity is used to protect not to punish people. The other maxim is that â€Å"he who comes to equity must come with clean hands†, this illustrates that whoever uses equitable remedy must have acted equitably them selves as well. This maxim was used in the case of DC Builders v Rees, in this case the couple were not allowed to rely on the equitable principle of â€Å"promissory estoppel† because they did not act fairly when did not pay back the builder what they owed him. One of the other maxims are `delay defeats equity`. This means that when a claimant takes unreasonably long time to bring an action which means that the equitable remedies will not be available. This maxim was applied in the case of Leaf v International Galleries where claimant realised after five years that the painting he bought was not genuine and he claimed the equitable remedy for rescission, but the court said that the delay had been too long. Equity is still very significant today. It is being used all over the country in the areas of mortgage and trust. The area of contract is still very much based on principles of equity. Trusts are originated entirely on equity where the trustee, who has interest in the property, should perform in the favour of the person with an `equitable interest` in the property. Equitable principles are still being developed such as the â€Å"promissory estoppel`, it is discussed in the DC Builders. Lord Denning developed this in The High Trees Case it stops the person to go back on a promise. The most recent development has been of `deserted wife’s equity` this was developed to overcome the problem of marriages when the martial home is on the husbands name only however now until any of the children’s reach the age of 16 the wife don’t have to leave the house. In conclusion equity came into place because of the problems in the common law and is believed to have brought fairness and justice where the common law was unsuccessful and it is said that â€Å"equity provides a gloss on common law†.

Research by the National Institute of Mental Health suggests that "the brain goes through a dramatic period of development during puberty." (NIMH) During adolescence the developing teenager acquires the ability to think systematically about all logical relationships within a problem. The transition from concrete thinking to formal logical operations occurs over time. Each adolescent progresses at varying rates in developing his/her ability to think in more complex ways. Each adolescent develops his/her own view of the world. It is important to keep in mind in the "family moving" scenario that some adolescents may be able to apply logical operations to school work long before they are able to apply them to personal dilemmas. When emotional issues arise, they often interfere with an adolescent's ability to think in more complex ways. The ability to consider possibilities, as well as facts, may influence decision making, in either positive or negative ways. Like other early adolescents, Hayley has already begun to question authority and society standards prior to our move. She also has begun to form and verbalize her own thoughts and views on a variety of topics, usually more related to her own life, such as: which sports are better to play.; which groups are better to be included in; what personal appearances are desirable or attractive; and what parental rules should be changed. And, yes, also where it would be better for the family to live. Sometimes I long for the elementary school-age version of Hayley, when she had strong ties to her family and want to please her parents. The years between 11 and 14 are a transition between childhood and adulthood, and appropriately adolescents begin to feel the psychological urge to become more independent from their families. The behavioral patterns of children have changed to violence and wherever they do something or any activity, they do it with a lot of violence, imitating what they saw on the video games. The world is breeding a generation of children who are violent which therefore means that the world in a few tears will be full of a generation of violent people. The minds of these children have also been changed and affected as the continued feeding into their minds with violent video games has made them to be different human beings all together. The sales of video games have grown drastically to a level which is alarming. The impact of excessive watching of the video games is clearly seen as to the way children are behaving and how they have been addicted to watching them. The hypothesis for this discussion could be â€Å"that the continued watching of violent games by the children has caused psychological problems in children and this has resulted to changes in their behavioral patterns. † Allowing the children the watch violent video games is infact doing injustice to them because it is one way of destroying them morally, socially and psychologically. An immediate action has to be taken and that a remedy must be found to protect these children from getting too much exposed to watching violent video games. Children mostly like watching violent videos which shows acts of violence that they later practice. Parents have not been keen to check on what content their children are watching, but they are the first ones to complain about the behavioral changes of their children which are deviant, rude and violent. Over the past few years, several studies (Creasey, G. L. , Myers, B. J. 1986) have been carried on the psychological effects of violent video games on children. The majority of this research looked at the associations between video game use and the aggressive behavior and also on the effects of video games on school performance. Even though the video games are designed for entertaining, challenging and educational, most of them include the violent content. Recent research on video games indicates that as many as 89% of the games contain violent content and therefore, among the games that are purchased and played by the children contains violence. Playing violent video games increases the aggressive behaviors of children, increases their aggressive cognitions, their aggressive emotions, their physiological arousal and decreases their prosocial behaviors. These effects have psychologically affected the children and completely changed their behavioral patterns. Parents do not often put limits on how much time the children are allowed to play video games and how often the same parents checked on the contents of the video games. Even a few of them check the video content and found it to be violent, on a few occasions could deny their children from watching them. (American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Association, 2000) Children have perfected the best ways to convince their parents to buy for them the video games they could like to watch. They even convince their parents that the video games they are about to watch are not violent, to which their parents just accepts without any further investigation. The parents have been victims of violence meted against them by their own children who have become violent through watching violent video games. Children spend most of their time, especially during holidays to watch video games at the expense of their educational studies. The contents of the video games being played could certainly affect the relationship between the amount of their play time and their school performance. Children who use computers to play violent or non-violent video games perform more poorly in school, whereas those who use computers in performing school work performed better. This is clear indicator that excessive or continued watching of violent video games intoxicates the mind and changes the reasoning and concentration of children on educational maters (Dill, K. E. , Dill, J. C. 1998). Teachers in various schools are raising concern on the changed behavior patterns of the children. They are saying that the children have become rude, brutal and bullies amongst the other children and to the teachers. The children feel superior and muscular enough to respond to any fights. The boys are the majority victims than the girls, though girls are also interested in watching violent video games but not as boys. Boys quite often harass girls using the techniques they have watched, liked and imitated. They feel that they are mature enough and can behave exactly like what they watched on the video games. This makes them to forget that they are still young children whose minds have been tainted with violent materials (Van Schie, E. G. M. , Wiegman, O. 1997). Conclusion Children should not be allowed to watch violent video games when they are still young. This greatly affects their psychological development, changing their behavioral patterns. It is painful for parents and guardians when the children they are supposed to take care of become rude, violent, deviant and act as if they are criminals by dressing, way of speaking. It is their responsibility to make sure that whatever material their children watch has the right material content and teaches good morals. If the children will experience psychological problems through watching violent video games, even their academic performance will go down. The acts of violence copied by the children will be of negative impact to them, hence we will in future have a society which will be violent. Something must be done through concerted efforts to rectify the situation before it is too late. As children begin to see the world in aggressive terms and therefore begin to act aggressively, their personality changes to become more aggressive and hostile. These changes will result in increased opportunities for aggressive behavior, because of both changes in the individual’s personality and the changes in the situations the individual (child) is likely to get involved in as others react to the individual. This is all brought about by watching violent video games. Recommendations Several recommendations can be of great help and these include; the parents should play the video games with the children. From this they will be able to know what their children are exposed to watch and how they will react to different features in the game, parents should know their children, in that if a child becomes aggressive after watching violent video games, they should stop buying such games regardless the child’s age, parents should talk with the children if they sense that their children are disturbed after watching a violent video game. This could be an opportunity for the parent and the children to discuss more deeply on the video games, the parents should set limits for watching the video games. Infact they should censor the video games before the children watch them and the video game makers should be informed that the games they are making and selling for children to watch are more violent and bringing more harm to the children and so should make games that are children friendly. The teachers at school should also assist the parents in counseling the children who they discover that they have been victims of watching violent video games. If this has affected their class work, they should inform their parents so that they can look for a way forward together to help these children to return to normality. We Must Put an End to Police Brutality Essay -- Black Lives Matter

â€Å"If you wish for peace, prepare for war.† This Roman proverb can be applied to police; they must be trained for the worst possible incident but they should try hard to avoid using their training in real experiences. Most police departments and officers would believe strongly in this proverb, however there are a few examples in the U.S. in which the officers’ use of force has been excessive and unnecessary where they used their training to harm rather than protect and enforce the law. During their service, police are given several authorities to exercise the law and make sure that the law is carried out among citizens. This can lead to an officer having a sense of entitlement and a possibility of them losing respect for their boundaries. Such a case is called police brutality and even though police officers are responsible for enforcing the law, they have breached these laws and taken advantage of their position; such violations of human rights must be eliminated . Lt. Col. David Grossman compares innocent people to sheep and officers and soldiers to people who have a compassion for citizens but also a capacity for violence. "The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed.†(139) Officers can be compared to the sheepdogs since most citizens don’t enjoy a cop’s presence and are fearful of police; however citizens need their presence to protect them from harm. Ben Bernanke and Sub-prime

Considering Ben Bernanke’s statements and economic forecast one year later, the downside has occurred. He mentioned the effect of consumer confidence and attitude about the possibility of inflation. Since that forecast was made attitudes across the board have shown no confidence in an economic upturn, or at least a belief that the economy is less than stable. The federal government has responded with the Economic Stimulus Package designed to increase consumer and business spending. The Stimulus Package will put actual dollars into the hands of consumers hoping to cause a real increase in consumer spending.Bernanke stated that business capital expenditures should at least remain stable. However, an extra push was given in the form of additional tax writeoffs for large capital expenditures. In other words both consumer and business spending were leveling off or decreasing and needed a boost. Gas prices have remained unstable, rising and falling by nearly $1 per gallon in many ar eas. This constant fluctuation makes it difficult to assess the long term affect of gas prices on the economy. However, gas price fluctuations may not be as large of a downside as some other issues in the economy.Consumers can shop long distance without using any gasoline. With the internet people can shop online eliminating to drive across town for a day of shopping. Employment and trade deficits continue to be of concern to economists, however these issues have been overshadowed by continuing developments and downturns in the housing and mortgage industries. The Downside At the time of the 2007 economic forecast, the housing market had already entered a slump. Bernanke stated that the subprime effect may be contained. However, that has not been the case.The subprime debacle has remained in the headlines under many terms including: the housing crisis, the subprime mortgage mess, the foreclosure crisis, and the credit crisis. The housing crisis began after the price and sales boom i n 2005. As housing prices began a rapid decline over one year, it became evident that the problem was due in part (if not in full) to the recent developments in the subprime mortgage market. Many subprime mortgages had adjustable rates which were unaffordable when the rate adjustment increased those monthly mortgage payments.This was compounded by the fact that housing prices had begun a rapid decline. There was no way for homeowners to get out of those rising payments either by selling or refinancing. Homes no longer had the equity or value that they were expected to have. The Spillover and Its Affect The first spillover from the housing price decline was directly to the subprime mortgage market. Two years after the housing market meltdown, it has been discovered that the entire subprime market was the result of the collective genius of Wall Street investment firms.Subprime mortgages had become a complex range of securities including bonds, hedge funds, mortgage-backed securities, collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and other such terms that we now hear everyday on the news. Many have found that their personal investments – pensions, IRAs, as well as bank and corporate investments were heavily invested in subprime mortgages at least indirectly. What has resulted is a breakdown of the financial markets, both in the United States and internationally.Daily news reports show that international investors and banks have been exposed to or involved in the U. S. subprime markets. Credit ratings on many investments have been lowered to the point of declaring some bank securities worthless. When banks have no collateral to borrow against, they have no funds to lend to their banking customers, even the ones with good credit. When investment houses get lower credit ratings, the value of a shareholder’s’s investments becomes worthless as well. As a result, the U. S.dollar has lost footing against foreign currencies. This caused the government and t he Federal Reserve to step in and literally change the way they put money into the economy. Until very recently, the Federal Reserve, the U. S. Central Bank, did not lend money to Wall Street investment firms. Realizing that the developments in the subprime market and the widespread use of subprime mortgages as investment vehicles, the Federal Reserve has come to understand that the subprime mortgage industry is at the very heart of our economy.Changing key interest rates several times did not help, so the Fed had to put money into the area that is most likely to bring the economy into a recession. In other words, there has been a change in the banking and financial systems. Lending and borrowing fuel buying and selling, and saving and spending in the economy. Commercial deposit banks are no longer the primary source of capital to businesses and consumers, but investment banks are. To support this new source of business the Federal Reserve has begun lending to investment houses by t he same means that it lends to banks – through short term loans.Investment houses have also began offering smaller consumer based deposit and credit products such as money market deposit accounts and credit cards available at many major investment brokerages. Analysis and Conclusion The reason for the subprime spillover into other segments of the economy is because the economy and the way it operates is shifting. The U. S. economy, and the international economy may no longer be bank based. As governments begin to privatize certain operations, the way these organizations seek funding or capital becomes a private matter.For example, when the Unites States government chartered private companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to essentially operate the mortgage market, Fannie and Freddie raised capital on the U. S. financial markets as opposed to borrowing through banks. Right now the U. S. is at the downside of a bank based economy. What the upside will be is the complete shift to a n investment based economy. As the Federal Reserve continues to support the investment houses, those will become our deposit institutions of the future. Once that shift is complete, the economy will stabilize and grow, even though it will be completely different.

Analysis Of The Movie Remember The Titans - 1538 Words

Remember the Titans is a classic movie about one black-populated high school and one white-populated high school who are forced to integrate into one school/football team in a suburban town in Virginia in 1971. Neither races are obliging to this rash decision being enforced but there was nothing to be done about it. The 70’s were a very difficult time to be a minority especially for African Americans, which is what led to many problems and struggles not only throughout the school, but specifically within the football team. During this time of hatred and segregation, one football team at T.C. Williams High School goes through the struggle of working together with teammates belonging to a different race. Through all of the hardships taken place in the film, the team gradually learns to not define one another because of skin color. Once the disappointing news about the integration of the two schools was struck upon the students, mixed emotions are stirred a bit. Integration in the 1970’s is considered a prominent issue in the Caucasian community due to the past generations being raised to believe in segregation. Both races viewed integrations differently as for the white’s this was a disappointment after many years of dominance however for the black community in the United States this was a grand accomplishment and stepping stone for the future.
